Dutch police detained a Spanish man found driving a van containing gas canisters near a concert venue in Rotterdam after Spanish authorities warned of a possible terrorist attack in the area. News of the man’s arrest and the Spanish authorities’ warning prompted panic, and a rock concert by the American band Allah-Las scheduled for Wednesday night was canceled as a precaution. Rotterdam Mayor Ahmed Aboutaleb warned against “swift conclusions” late Wednesday, saying “it would be wrong at this moment” to conclude the suspect was preparing to attack the venue “because that was the picture last week in Barcelona.” Dutch police have not released the man’s name or provided further details on the gas canisters found in his vehicle. A Spanish judicial source cited by Reuters late Wednesday said authorities did not believe there was a link between the possible threat in Rotterdam and the attack in Barcelona that killed 15 people last week.
