A friend of Dylann Roof, the man who killed nine African-American worshippers in 2015 at a church in Charleston, South Carolina, was sentenced on Tuesday to 27 months behind bars for not informing authorities of Roof’s plans and for lying to the FBI. “I’m really, really sorry. A lot of beautiful lives were taken,” said Joey Meek, whom Roof informed ahead of time of his plan to open fire on the worshippers. According to Meek, Roof mentioned it to him a week before the massacre while the two were drinking vodka and snorting cocaine.
