Eastwood to Direct Beyoncé in A Star Is Born

A box-office hit is born? With Beyoncé as the musical's leading lady, Clint Eastwood has signed on to direct Warner Brothers’ A Star Is Born, Deadline Hollywood reports, and co-produce the film with Billy Gerber and Jon Peters, who made the much-loved 1976 version starring Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson. Eastwood is fit for the challenge: He’s recently written the scores for his movies, with his score for Changeling earning him an Academy Award nomination. Names being tossed around for male lead include Will Smith, P. Diddy, Eddie Murphy, Robert Downey, Jr., and Jon Hamm. The Star Is Born project has been in the works at Warner Brothers for several years, and the studio hopes to begin shooting in the fall.
