Education Bill to Reward Volunteers

Bipartisan bill to be named for Hatch and Kennedy.

Obama has long emphasized the value of volunteerism, even toying with the idea of a mandatory service period for young adults. In his speech today, Obama argued that every American should commit to at least one year of higher education, "and dropping out of high school is no longer an option." Obama announced that new legislation would make upper education affordable for every American willing to serve their communities and nations. The forthcoming bill will be named for senators Orrin Hatch (R-UT) and Edward Kennedy (D-MA), the latter of whom has been struggling publicly with his health in recent months.
