Egypt Arrests 25 in Bath House Raid

Egyptian security forces arrested 25 men during a raid on a Cairo bath house on Sunday. Arresting the men on suspicion of homosexual activities, the police dragged them into the street naked. Egypt does not have a law explicitly banning homosexual relations, but has prosecuted gay men on charges of “debauchery” or “shameless public acts.” In April, four men were each sentenced to eight years in prison for holding parties that involved “homosexual acts and where women’s clothing and makeup were found,” according to the AP. Just last month, eight men were sentenced to three years in prison for appearing in a same-sex wedding party on a boat in the Nile.
