Despite a report in a Kuwaiti newspaper that claimed Field Marshal Abdel Fatah al-Sisi was running for president, the Egyptian army issued a denial saying if he was to run, he would announce directly to “the great Egyptian people.” According to the report, al-Sisi, who was behind the overthrow of Mohamed Morsi’s government, said it was the will of the people that he run, but warned that he does not possess a “magic wand” to solve problems like Egypt’s economy. Despite his denial, al-Sisi has essentially been running the country since Morsi’s downfall, and posters of his image are everywhere in Cairo.
