In case you couldn’t tell already, we’re talking a lot about Egypt: The political turmoil in Egypt is the biggest international story in the past four years, according to Pew—larger than the Iranian protests (which generated half the coverage) and the Haiti earthquake. Fifty-six percent of news stories between January 31 and February 6 have been devoted to Egypt; the next most-covered event was the Iraq war from September 9 through 14, when it earned 43 percent of news stories. The Egypt story has consumed 84 percent of airtime on ideological cable news shows. Gabrielle Giffords, meanwhile, dropped to just 1 percent of news stories in this span.
