An aid to Palestinian President MahmoudAbbas announced that Egypt will host indirect talks between Israelisand Palestinians this week. Azzam al-Ahmed said on a Palestinianradio show Sunday that talks would begin in Cairo on Tuesday. Notonly will the negotiations aim to bring a long-term Gaza ceasefire,they will try to rectify Palestinians'internal riff between Hamas and Fatah. Israelis and Palestiniansfought a bloody 50-day long war this summer that came to a close inAugust, but without a long-term peace deal. Egypthas served as a major moderator in trying to resolve conflictsover Gaza.
