Egyptian Vice President Mahmoud Mekky resigned Saturday, citing the elimination of the office under the country's potential new Constitution. Although the Constitution was not in place at the time of the announcement—the measures (which include the elimination of vice president and the granting of sweeping powers to the president—are expected to pass as Egyptians vote Saturday. Mekky was integral in hosting December's “national-unity talks” with President Mohamed Morsi, which most in the opposition to the constitutional changes did not attend.
