Eight people were killed early Monday after a suicide bomber detonated explosives in a remote mosque in northeastern Nigeria, according to CNN. “A male suicide bomber went into a mosque and denoted explosives, killing himself and seven others,” said the region’s state commissioner of police. “Seven others are injured, and they have been taken to the hospital.” Authorities have not yet confirmed the motive behind the attack, but they suspect it is linked to terror group Boko Haram, which has detonated bombs in Northern Nigeria as part of a “decade-long war.” Nigeria has been devastated by mosque-bombing attacks in recent months, CNN adds, despite the military’s claim that it is making progress regaining territory. In June, a “double bomb blast” at a local mosque killed 20; 24 more were killed in another mosque bombing in May.
