Health officials in El Salvador have announced that they are urging women in the country not to get pregnant until 2018 in order to fight the rapid spread of the Zika virus, a mosquito-borne disease. The entire region has been hit hard by the virus especially Brazil where more than a million cases have been confirmed, some of which have resulted in microcephaly in babies, an incurable condition where an infant's head is abnormally small. The plan in El Salvador is not mandated, but simply recommended as the country tries to fight the growing crisis.
