30 school district buildings using alternate water source.
Some Newark public schools have been forced to use alternate drinking water sources after annual testing found elevated lead levels in the supply. About 30 school district buildings have been affected, according to a statement released by the Department of Environmental Protection. Some of the buildings measured higher than the EPA’s “action level” for lead—an amount that requires more testing and monitoring, the department said. Newark schools have temporarily shut off all drinking water at the affected schools.
