Paramount Players has optioned a Daily Beast story about the behind-the-scenes chaos that ensued in 1986 when an MTV contest led to a “dream date” between a Wyoming hotel maid and Prince, Deadline reports. Elizabeth Banks is set to star in the film, to be titled Queen for a Day. The actress will also produce the feature with Max Handelman, as well as Josh Stolberg and David Klawans. Flore Greeson has reportedly been tasked with rewriting a first draft of the script written by Stolberg. The movie, inspired by Chris Lee’s reporting on the culture shock that ensued when Prince visited the predominantly white cowboy town of Sheridan, Wyoming, will reportedly focus on how the events drastically changed the lives of the hotel maid, Lisa Barber, and the PR executive behind the stunt.
