Ella Emhoff Says ‘You Suck’ to Those Who ‘Made It Harder’
The Brooklyn-based artist, daughter of Kamala Harris’ husband Doug Emhoff, took to Instagram to vent on inauguration day.

Kamala Harris’ stepdaughter, Ella Emhoff, has spoken out on her time as the United States’ “second daughter” and told her haters “you suck.”
As the presidential inauguration got under way Monday, Emhoff took aim at those who made it “harder” for her in a strongly worded Instagram post showing images of her time indirectly involved with the White House. “Hi. I know we are all feeling a lot of emotions today,” she penned. “I’m truly feeling the full spectrum of emotions right now as I reflect on the past 4 years.”
Emhoff, 25, said the honor had been “truly insane.” “I just want to say I’m so grateful for everyone who has supported me during this period of my life. Some of my highest highs and lowest lows,” she wrote, before blasting off at the haters.
“For those who made it harder, you suck. It’s been truly insane and a honor being the 2nd daughter. Thank you for letting me do it in my own way.”
Emhoff, who is also a fashion designer, recently also spoke out about how the California wildfires had affected her. She wrote on Instagram: “It’s really hard to put into words how devastating this all is. My heart is breaking watching so many friends/Californians lose their homes and history. I grew up in LA and most of that time in the Palisades, so this is hitting very close to home.”
Monday’s post comes after reports that her father, Doug Emhoff, recently began searching for properties in New York City in preparation for life away from politics with Kamala Harris. A source told Page Six that they “heard they were looking to be bicoastal,” living between New York City and Los Angeles.

Emhoff, who once described herself as a “highly anxious and sensitive person,” has been targeted by MAGA types for simply “existing,” according to TNR. Among the attacks were jibes about her appearance and even “transvestigations” about her gender after she appeared at the Democratic National Convention last year.
After she was spotted crying following Harris’ concession speech in November, ugly rumors began to spread in right-wing social media circles—the ugliest of all claimed that Emhoff had checked herself into a facility after a mental breakdown.

She didn’t take the vitriol lying down, replying with a sharp and pointed “f--- you.” “There‘s a rumor about me having a mental breakdown and getting checked into a hospital. Not true. Also f--- you if you’re out there spreading that,” she wrote in her Instagram Story. “There’s nothing wrong with showing emotion and crying. Anyone who says there is probably needs a good cry.”
