Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk on Sunday lashed out at a British diver involved in rescue efforts for 12 Thai boys trapped in a cave after the latter publicly criticized Musk’s own attempts to help in the mission. One day earlier, Vern Unsworth, a British expat who was crucial in devising a plan to extract the boys from the flooded Tham Luang cave, had dismissed a miniature submarine brought in by Musk as a “PR stunt,” saying the device “had no chance of working.” Musk responded to mounting criticism of his rescue plan Sunday by calling Unsworth a “pedo guy.” “Never saw this British expat guy who lives in Thailand (sus) at any point when we were in the caves,” he tweeted. He went on to challenge Unsworth’s assertion that the mini sub wouldn’t have been able to make it to the cave where the boys were trapped, promising to make a video of the device getting there. After facing widespread condemnation for the personal attack, Musk deleted the tweets.
