English rock musician Elvis Costello disclosed his private battle with cancer for the first time Friday, announcing that his tumor has been removed but that he must cancel the remainder of his tour in order to recover properly. In a written statement cited by The Guardian, Costello explained to fans that his doctor had successfully removed a “small but very aggressive” malignant tumor about six weeks ago. Although he originally thought he would be able to finish the tour, Costello added that “I have to now accept that it is going to take longer than I would have wished for me to recover my full strength.” He did, however, announce more positive news: “The Imposters and I—together with several of our other friends—have made a magnificent new record of which we are truly proud. It will be issued in October.”
