Rio Ferdinand injures his left knee.

When England faces the United States in its first World Cup match next week, it will have to do so without its captain: Rio Ferdinand, the captain of the English team, is out of the World Cup after injuring his knee. Ferdinand hurt himself during training while turning to chase a striker. The injury will knock Ferdinand out for four to six weeks.
