Episcopal Church Gets First Black Leader

North Carolina Bishop Michael Curry was chosen.

The Episcopal Church chose North Carolina Bishop Michael Curry as its new presiding bishop during Saturday's Episcopal General Convention in Salt Lake City. Curry is the first African-American to lead the denomination. He will assume the role after current presiding bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori ends her nine-year term on November 1.
