Turkey President Tayyip Erdogan announced Thursday that the release of deposed Egyptian president Mohamed Morsi and his supporters is a precondition to restoring ties between the two countries. The new Egyptian government has rounded up and sentenced hundreds of Muslim Brotherhood supporters to death since Morsi was ousted in 2013. “Mr. Morsi is a president elected by 52 percent of the votes. They should give him his freedom,” Erdogan told Turkish papers on his way back from Lebanon. “There are 3,000 people there sentenced to death. This should be lifted.”
