Erin Brockovich Returns to Battle Toxic Water

The film Erin Brockovich, starring Julia Roberts, ended happily, with a sick housewife weeping with joy as she gets her share of a historic $333 million settlement between residents of Hinkley, California, and Pacific Gas & Electric, which poisoned their drinking water with cancer-causing chromium. That woman, Roberta Walker, still lives in Hinkley, and has once again enlisted Brockovich to rally residents against PG&E, who have allegedly polluted the water again. The two are expected to rally the townspeople at a water board meeting on Wednesday, where they will sample the water, which they believe is even more contaminated than the utility company claims. "When I first met Roberta back in 1991 and 1992, she said PG&E is buying property, handing out bottled water and my horse just died,” said Brockovich. "This year she called and said they're buying property, handing out bottled water and my horse just died.” Brockovich added, “Eerie doesn't describe it. It was out of body—it was like the 20 years never happened.”
