Authorities in California allowed thousands of residents living near Los Angeles to return home after a brush fire prompted mass evacuations. The neighborhoods of Calabasas and Topanga saw 3,000 homes threatened and nearly 5,000 people evacuated late Saturday after a car crash destroyed power lines and unleashed an inferno in the area. The fire had spread to over 500 acres of land before firefighters managed to contain it on Sunday with the help of aircraft. By Sunday evening, the fire was 80 percent contained, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
