One of American Idol’s original producers, Nigel Lythgoe, says that the show is in serious need of a reboot: “I would replace the entire judging panel,” Lythgoe told Zap2it.com on Thursday. He added that he doesn’t “think it really works replacing one person. They don’t have a great deal of chemistry at the moment. Ryan and Simon have fallen out. It’s uncomfortable to watch.” As for the show’s newest panelist? “Ellen hasn’t worked out as well as we would have hoped,” Lythgoe said. Who does Lythgoe think would make up a dream panel? “Elton John, Usher, and Paula Abdul.”
