Ex-Israeli PM Handed 8 Months in Jail

Added to six years from separate conviction.

The Jersualem District Court on Monday sentenced former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert to an additional eight months in prison, adding to a six-year term he will serve for a separate conviction. The new sentence includes a fine of more than $25,000 and comes months after he was convicted for trading political favors for envelopes full of cash from U.S. businessman Morris Talansky. Olmert was convicted and sentenced to six years in prison for a real-estate bribery scheme last year. Olmert’s lawyers said they plan to appeal, but the judges ruled the ex-politician must begin his prison term in the Talanksy case in 45 days.
