Former Michigan State University President Lou Anna Simon was arraigned Monday on charges that she lied to police in the Larry Nassar investigation. Eaton County District Court Judge Julie Reinck set Simon’s bond at $5,000, and scheduled a conference for December 18 to discuss her preliminary hearing. Simon was charged last week with two felony counts of lying to a peace officer in a violent-crime investigation, and two misdemeanor counts of lying to a peace officer. She allegedly lied about her knowledge of a 2014 Title IX complaint filed by a medical student who reported Nassar for assaulting her in March 2014. Mayer Morganroth, Simon’s lawyer, said Monday that Simon plans to plea not guilty, adding that the charges against her are false and ridiculous. “She had 47 years there [at MSU], and all they are doing is torturing a woman,” she said.
