Former NFL player Joe McKnight was fatally shot Thursday near New Orleans after arguing with another motorist at an intersection. Police said the incident occurred at 2:43 p.m. in the town of Terrytown, when McKnight was allegedly shot by 54-year-old Ronald Gasser, the Associated Press reported. “The only thing we know right now, everything else is conjecture, is that Mr. Gasser did in fact shoot Mr. McKnight,” Jefferson Parish Sheriff Newell Normand was cited as saying. McKnight, 28, played three seasons with the New York Jets and one with the Kansas City Chiefs. Police have declined to give any further details on McKnight’s injuries but said an investigation would be conducted and Gasser, who is in custody, will be charged. McKnight is the second former NFL player to be killed in New Orleans this year as a result of a traffic altercation. Former New Orleans Saints player Will Smith was shot in April under similar circumstances.
