Ex-Philadelphia Flyers goalie Ray Emery died Sunday morning while swimming with friends in Lake Ontario, according to USA Today. Emery, 35, was first reported missing at about 6 a.m. near Hamilton Harbor; authorities finally discovered his body about nine hours later. Emery played 11 seasons in the NHL before retiring in 2016, USA Today added, on teams including the Flyers, the Senators, and the Blackhawks. The general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs expressed his condolences in a written statement cited by USA Today, calling Emery's death “sad and shocking... You always rooted for him to reach his vast potential even as he went through the many ups and downs of his playing career... My deepest condolences to his family and friends for their loss. He will be missed.”
