Ex-Pakistan P.M.'s Son Abducted

Taliban believed to be behind the kidnapping.

In the latest act of violence to mar Pakistan's election, gunmen kidnapped the son of former prime minister Yousuf Raza Gilani during a campaign rally in the city of Multan—the family’s power base. Ali Haider Gilani was campaigning for a provincial legislative seat in this Saturday’s national election when he was abducted by gunmen, who fatally shot his secretary. Officials suspect Taliban militants may be behind the attacks. The Pakistani Taliban has recently threatened liberal and secular politicians and has previously bombed political rallies. Gilani’s kidnapping comes two days after a leading candidate in the election was hospitalized after a fall.
