George Papadopoulos, the former Trump campaign adviser charged in Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation, reportedly told Reuters that he applied for a pardon from President Trump through his lawyers a few days ago and is considering withdrawing his guilty plea. “My lawyers have applied for a pardon from the president for me,” Papadopoulos said. “If I’m offered one I would love to accept it, of course.” Papadopoulos, a campaign foreign policy adviser, was sentenced to two weeks in jail and fined $9,500 after he lied to the FBI about his contacts with Russian intermediaries before the 2016 election. He also pleaded guilty to federal investigators in a January 2017 meeting.
