Lone Survivor, the blockbuster starring Mark Wahlberg and based on Marcus Luttrell’s memoir as a Navy SEAL in Afghanistan, beat the competition in its opening weekend with $38.5 million in North America. Disney’s Frozen continued to do well, in its eighth week it came in second with $15.1 million. The big stink emanating the weekend’s numbers is for The Legend of Hercules, which earned only $8.6 million in its opening weekend on a $70 million budget.
