It’s wildfire season and, brittle from record droughts, much of the West is burning. One of the blazes, dubbed the Rocky Fire, stretches roughly 110 square miles across Northern California, and has been thwarting the efforts of 3,500 firefighters, though officials hope to contain it in the coming week. Evacuations are rampant, with thousands of residents displaced, and 43 homes destroyed. Thus far, 134,000 acres have been burned, nearly three times the state’s average for this time of year.
As the flames burn, social media is alight with images from both the perimeter and heart of the blaze. Here are a few of the best images from Instagram of the Rocky Fire and its aftermath.
