A Vancouver, Washington, woman whose tale of a stranger attacking her with acid caused a minor media sensation admitted Monday that she did the damage herself. Bethany Storro, 28, said she wanted to kill herself and that she thought “maybe this was the answer to all my problems. To have a completely different face.” Storro told police that on August 30, a woman approached her and splashed acid on her face, and after the incident captured everyone in the community’s attention, a public fund was set up to help Storro recover. But later, when police were investigating the incident, they could not find anything to support her story. Storro has been charged with three counts of second-degree fraud since she received money from a public fund intended as a charitable gift.
