Fake Cop Convinced Woman Her Husband Was Shot at Walmart: Police
BAFFLING
Police in North Carolina are on the hunt for a man who posed as a police officer and deceptively convinced a local woman that her husband had been fatally shot at a neighborhood Walmart, the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office said in a release. Around 11:30 a.m. Thursday morning, the unidentified man approached the woman and pretended to deliver the somber news. “The female (said) that a man, dressed in uniform-style attire resembling a law enforcement officer, came to her door and told her he was there to report to her that her husband had been killed in a shooting at the ‘Madison Walmart.’ The man called her husband specifically by name,” the sheriff’s office said. The distressed woman then phoned a friend and told the faux officer that she had done so, which prompted him to flee the scene. In his absence, the woman made contact with her husband and discovered it was all a hoax—though the fake officer’s mysterious motive continues to elude authorities.
