Now that Martin Scorsese’s Shutter Island has been bumped to 2010, Clint Eastwood’s Invictus is a front-runner for the 2009 Best Picture Oscar. Set immediately after the fall of apartheid in South Africa, Morgan Freeman stars as Nelson Mandela while Matt Damon plays Francois Pienaar, the rugby captain who partnered with Mandela to help repair the cultural rifts in the fragmented South African communities.
