Famous Movie Families Immortalized in Portraits

Nostalgia

It’s Navin Johnson’s family like you’ve never seen them before: in paint. And, right in the middle of the strained smiles, is Steve Martin, in overalls, just as he was in The Jerk. Artist Kirk Demarais has re-imagined his favorite movie families in the Crazy 4 Cult show at Gallery 1988 in Los Angeles. He’s chosen families from his favorite cult classics, such as Poltergeist and The Shining, and, keeping familial tensions in mind, rendered them with all the stress and awkwardness of their on-screen characters. Said the artist on his blog: “When you drop these familiar movie families into the equation you've got a double layer of irony. Anyone who's seen these films gets flashes of the horrors each tribe is destined for.”
