Fantastic Four opened over the weekend with a dismal $26.2 million at U.S. box offices, falling being Mission: Impossible—Rogue Nation and becoming one of the lowest openings of all time for a big-budget studio superhero movie. The reboot totaled less than half of what the previous two Fantastic Four films opened to—$56.1 million for the original in 2005 and $58.1 million for 2007’s Rise of the Silver Surfer. The $120 million fumble comes after Fantastic Four director Josh Trank slammed his own film. Tom Cruise’s Mission: Impossible claimed No. 1 with $29.4 million in its second weekend, while The Gift came in at No. 3 with $12 million.
