Universal’s Fast Five easily won the weekend at the domestic box office with a record $83.6 million opening. The film, the fifth in the franchise, had the best opening ever for Universal and the top opening ever for April. Twentieth Century Fox’s animated film Rio came in second with a weekend gross of $14.4 million, for a domestic total of $103.6 million. Internationally, Thor came in first place, grossing $83 million from 56 markets—but not the U.S., where it will open on May 6. Disney’s Prom and The Weinstein Co.’s Hoodwinked Too! Hood vs. Evil, were both disappointments, grossing $5 million and $4.1 million, respectively.
