A day after the purported deadline for a prisoner swap passed, the fates of a Japanese journalist and a Jordanian military pilot were unknown Friday. “Government institutions are working around the clock on the case of pilot Muadh al Kasasbeh,” Jordanian military spokesman Mamdouh al-Ameri said in a statement. “We will inform you of any developments in due time.” The pair have been held captive by ISIS and their lives offered in exchange for the release of a female suicide bomber. “There is nothing I can tell you,” government spokesman Yoshihide Suga told reporters, while stressing the “strong trust” Japan had in Jordan to aid in saving the hostages.
