Emma Watson and Tom Hanks’ The Circle suffered an embarrassing defeat at the box office this weekend, failing to break into the top three. The Fate of the Furious claimed the top spot for the third weekend in a row, surpassing the $1 billion mark in global ticket sales. The action film, starring Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson, also beat its predecessor, Furious 7, to become the highest-grossing imported film in Chinese theaters, with a whopping $361 million. How to Be a Latin Lover, a comedy starring Salma Hayek and Rob Lowe, came in second place domestically, with $12 million. A film from south India ranked third, with an impressive $10.1 million in domestic sales despite being shown in only 420 theaters. Baahubali 2: The Conclusion, an epic historical fantasy film in the Telugu language, was the sequel to 2015’s Baahubali: The Beginning, which became the third-highest-grossing Indian film in the world. The Circle, a techno-thriller based on a Dave Eggers novel, opened in fourth place with $9.3 million.
