Public officials in North Carolina and California were arrested Wednesday by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, which also raided the office of a New York assemblyman. Patrick Cannon, the mayor of Charlotte, North Carolina, has been charged with theft and bribery concerning programs receiving federal funds. California state senator Leland Yee was also arrested as part of a corruption probe (and is the third California state senator tied to corruption investigations this year). The offices of New York state Assemblyman William Scarborough were raided, but he was not arrested. Scarborough said he was questioned for his per diem reimbursements.
