A Seattle federal judge has issued a temporary restraining order against the release of downloadable blueprints for 3D-printed guns, according to a report by the Associated Press. U.S. District Judge Robert Lasnik issued the order on Tuesday, preventing the blueprints from being published on Wednesday, after attorneys general from eight states filed a lawsuit earlier this week that argued that the distribution of the blueprints would be “a safety risk.” The lawsuit sought to block the Justice Department’s June settlement with the company that makes the blueprints, Defense Distributed, which had argued that the government was violating its First and Second Amendment rights by ordering it to remove the 3D-printed gun plans from the internet.
