On Tuesday, a judge in San Francisco barred the enforcement of an executive order from President Donald Trump that would have withheld funds from sanctuary cities that failed to comply with federal immigration demands by shielding undocumented immigrants. Trump declared in the Jan. 25 order that sanctuary cities cause “immeasurable harm to the American people and to the very fabric of our republic.” San Francisco and neighboring Santa Clara County argued that the order violated the Constitution. The federal government might ask the U.S. Court of Appeals in San Francisco to overturn the ruling.
