A federal judge has blocked the state of Missouri’s health department from stripping a Planned Parenthood of its license to perform abortions. Though the facility will maintain its license thanks to U.S. District Judge Nanette Laughrey, the clinic, which is located in Columbia, cannot perform abortions as state law requires that it have a doctor with hospital privileges on its staff. The St. Louis Planned Parenthood is the only legal abortion clinic in the state. The women’s health clinics have faced increased scrutiny in recent months after the release of controversial videos that purportedly showed staff members discussing the sale of fetal tissue.
