Rep. Gabrielle Giffords has reportedly survived her surgery and doctors are "optimistic" about her recovery. Six others have died, though, including District Judge John Roll and, reportedly, a young child. A total of 18 people were injured. The gunman was reportedly wrestled to the ground by a Giffords staffer after he ran out of ammunition. A pistol and an "extended clip" have been recovered from the scene. Police have taken into custody Jared Lee Loughner, 22.
