As federal authorities investigate about 120 individuals for insider trading, they’ve turned for help to a man who made himself synonymous with Wall Street power plays by starring in the 1987 film Wall Street, actor Michael Douglas. In a new FBI public service announcement, Douglas renounces the “greed is good” ethos his character espoused in the film, saying, “In the movie Wall Street I played Gordon Gekko, a greedy corporate executive who cheated to profit while innocent investors lost their savings.” The FBI is reportedly trying to get out the word on the dangers of risky investment practices. “The movie was fiction,” Douglas says, “but the problem is real.”
