The Associated Press reports it obtained a document showing that the Justice Department is investigating whether airlines are colluding to grow at a slower pace in order to keep airfares high. Justice spokeswoman Emily Pierce confirmed the department is investigating potential “unlawful coordination” between the four major airlines that control 80 percent of U.S. airline seats and have managed to eliminate unprofitable flights. The Daily Beast’s Clive Irving likened the industry to a cartel last week.
