New guidelines released Friday by the Justice Department and Treasury’s Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) will allow banks to work with marijuana businesses—in states where it’s legal—without fear of repercussions from the feds. “The department shares the concerns of public officials and law enforcement about the public-safety risks associated with businesses that handle significant amounts of cash,” a Justice Department spokeswoman said in a statement.
