A group of the best women soccer players in the world has sued FIFA and the Canadian Soccer Association, arguing that the plan to play next summer’s Women’s World Cup in Canada on artificial turf amounts to gender discrimination. The players filed a complaint with the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario, in Toronto, saying World Cup organizers are violating the country’s human-rights code. The filing asks that organizers be required to make sure the tournament, which begins June 6, be played on natural grass fields.
