A scheduled transfer of 10 detainees to Oman from the prison at Guantanamo Bay will leave only 93 detainees at the facility, the lowest number since 2002. Of those remaining, 34 have already been cleared for transfer. Samir al-Hassan Moqbel, 38, one of the men sent to Oman, briefly garnered media attention when he published an April 2013 New York Times column about his treatment inside the facility. Moqbel arrived the first day the U.S. military prison opened. None of the 10 prisoners released this week were ever charged with a crime, despite the fact that most were held for more than a decade.
