NELSON ALMEIDA
An Arkansas resident has tested positive for the Zika virus, the state’s department of health announced Tuesday afternoon. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention confirmed the diagnosis as a mild case of the disease that originated in South America. The infected individual had recently traveled outside the U.S. After first appearing in Brazil last May, the disease has been expected to spread across the Americas in coming months. There is no vaccine or treatment for disease, which is spread only through mosquito bites.
