Air Force General Lori Robinson became the first woman to ever lead a U.S. combat command center on Friday. Robinson will lead the U.S Northern Command (NORTHCOM) center, which coordinates homeland security operations with the Pentagon and NORAD. President Obama nominated Robinson for the role in March, and she received Senate approval in April.
